Mrs Toner

Mrs Toner joined St. Columba’s in 1991. After 25 years of sterling service we are saying goodbye. We would like to thank Mrs Toner for all her tremendous work in our school and for the community of Straw. She worked as Acting Principal, Vice-Principal but most of all as a kind, thoughtful, and highly dedicated teacher to so many of our children in Straw. We hope to continue the great work that Mrs Toner developed through World Around Us, Science, ICT. Liturgical Events, Community Events, Eco Schools and much, much more.We wish her health and happiness in her retirement.
Mrs Toner’s retirement Mass is in our school Wed 22nd March @ 7.30pm.
Everyone is welcome to attend the Mass and tea afterwards.

Congratulations to all the pupils that made their Confirmation at St. Columba’s Church on
Sunday 12th March 2017.Many thanks to all who helped support the children in their preparation for this very significant part of their faith journey.

Personal Targets

Pupils are all encouraged to take responsibility and become motivated
in improving themselves and their outcomes.

Irish Classes

P7 are really enjoying their Irish Classes. All pupils are looking forward to taking part in an Irish Quiz with the other Ballinascreen schools at the GAA Club on Monday 27th March. We would like to thank Conor Murray for organising and delivering this brilliant programme.

Catholic Schools Week

We had a very successful Catholic Schools Week. There was an opening Mass led by Bishop Donal McKeown in St. Eugene’s Cathedral that was attended by Mrs Sheila Reid, Mrs Geraldine McCullagh, Antain Donnelly, Nuala Diamond and Tiernan McErlean. We then had Grandparents day to pray for and celebrate our wonderful
Grandparents and to thank them for all the wonderful kindness, support, values that they pass on and for their love.

Credit Union Champs!!

Massive congratulations and ‘Hats Off’ to our quiz team winners. We are very
impressed with your wonderful general knowledge. Quiz Team; Liam Murray, Daire
Connolly, Feargal Logan, and James Heron.

First Confession

Primary Four made their First Confession. The pupils were such a credit to their parents and their teachers for their reverence. They worked really hard in preparation for this sacrament. Thanks to Mrs McElhatton for all her hard work in preparing the pupils and to Fr Downey for the beautiful service.

Student Council

Our Student Council is going from strength to strength and making some very important decisions. Recently the Student Council decided what Trocaire gifts to buy.

Happy Tadpoles

Mrs McAlister and P2 saved some tadpoles that had been abandoned on the grass. They have a nice new home in the pond with all the other tadpoles. We hope they are very happy there.

Eco School Birds Feeders

We are carrying on the great work that was true to Mrs Toner’s heart which is looking after our environment. Primary Seven made bird boxes to help the birds through the cold and bitter winter weather.
